Just over 60 per cent of Laois voters have have voted Yes in the abortion referendum
A total of 24,232 voters backed the repeal of the 8th amendment which enshrined the right to life of the unborn in the constitutioin.
Out of an electorate of 63,860 a total of 39,602 people voted on Friday, May 25.
When the 106 invalid ballots were discounted, 24,232 voted yes and 15,264 opposed change.
The result was declared 2.45pm in at the Laois count centre in St Mary's Hall Portlaoise by the returning officer Mr Paul Fetherstonhaugh.
