WATCH: Dramatic footage taken a year ago today of the Mountmellick floods in Laois

It is one year ago today that the Laois town of Mountmellick became impassable with floods.

One of the first roads affected that morning of November 22 was this one in Derrycloney that required the rescue of its elderly occupant.

The flood happened after heavy rains the night before flooded the Owenass River and smaller rivers through Mountmellick.

Over 100 homes and businesses were flooded throughout the day, with the N80 eventually closed through the town.
