WATCH: Serious fire has gutted two houses in Laois town

At least two houses in Portlaoise estate have been badly damaged

A terrifying fire has ripped through two houses in a Portlaoise estate, destroying their roofs and partially damaging a third adjoining house.

The fire took place on Friday evening, July 4 in the Monks Bridge section of Maryborough Village, off the Mountrath Road.

A video and photograph shared to social media by members of the public, show the frightening fire at the height of the blaze, and fire crews working to extinguish it.

It appears to have spread to up to three terraced houses in a row, in what is a large estate of back to back houses.

Laois County Fire and Rescue crew attended the fire to prevent it from spreading.

As yet it is unknown if anyone was injured in the fire.
