They call themselves The Mere Mortals but a 1980s / 90s band from Laois have proved themselves immortal, rising back to life this year to play live and even tackling the future of AI, as they launch a video for their new song.
The Mere Mortals are releasing a new single called 'Why Can’t I Believe’. They will officially launch it this Friday night, July 18 at a gig in a big Portlaoise venue.
They are the original lineup too, with Paul Marron on Main Vocals, Paul Brophy Vocals/ Guitar, Ollie Plunkett Guitar/backing vocals, Des Rigney Bass/ backing vocals, Dick Duff Drums/ backing vocals and reknowned sports mentor Pat Critchley who joins them for guest appearances.

The new track was produced by Ollie and engineered by Owen Geaney at Golden Egg Studios in Laois. The video of a dancing robot in space was edited by Avalanche Multi-Media Studios.
The band reunited following their appearance on TV programme Laochra Gael celebrating the many wonderful achievements of members, Pat Critchley, award winning sports coach and author. They are now recording new music in Golden Egg Studios.
The Mere Mortals enjoyed great success in Ireland in their previous life. They toured heavily nationwide playing pubs, clubs and summer festivals, as well as a two month residency at the renowned Baggot Inn in Dublin.

Their biggest gig was the first Feile festival in 1990, sharing the Main Stage with The Stunning, The Sawdoctors and Van Morrison. They also played at Poulaphouca House in August 1990 supporting Bob Geldolf and The Vegetarians of Love.
The band self-released their debut single and video for Travelling On in 1991, peaking at number 11 in the Irish charts. They later took a break for many years.
