'We're famous in school now': Laois kids go viral in adorable TikTok video

Portlaoise six year old says 'it's great to be famous'

Two Laois youngsters have gone viral in an adorable TikTok video, gaining over five million likes and 20 million views.

Portlaoise pair Abbey-Louise Byrne (18) and brother Alfie (6) posted a video of them singing 'Anyone Else But You' by The Mouldy Peaches.

A trend is circulating on TikTok of covering the well-known 2001 song, and the Laois kids have received international attention for it.

Alfie is thrilled with his new-found fame, but he won't let it go to his head.

"It's very good to be famous because you get loads of stuff, it's great," Alfie told the Leinster Express / Laois Live, while Abbey-Louise and their mother Louise laughed.

"I'm happy as life and walking around with my arms behind my back. I'm very famous in school, I had people ask to take a picture with me in Roll and Bowl, I was going to give them my autograph but I didn't have a pen," he explained.

Alfie plays with Portlaoise AFC and his club members have been thrilled for him. Portlaoise may have its own Bono, as Alfie's new-found fame has resulted in him wearing sunglasses to his school, Portlaoise Family Junior School.

"He had to wear his sunglasses to school the last two days, he said it's because he's famous," mother Louise laughed.

"He was giving out that he couldn't wear them in class, he's so funny."

Alfie agreed that his teacher told him that despite his celebrity status, sunglasses are for the outdoors.

"We sing a lot together and record a few videos, but I never posted them until now," Abbey-Louise explained.

"We are always messing around and singing, there's always music in our house as myself and Mam both sing," she said.

"The house is always blowing up with music, I've been listening to Halloween music too," Alfie affirmed.

The pair say that 'it doesn't feel real' that there are several hundred thousand shares of their video, and receiving reposts from celebrities and Disney stars.

"When the first million likes came through I was like, what the hell?! I didn't think it was possible, it's like they're not real people commenting and liking the post. So many people commented that Alfie brightened their day," Abbey-Louise said.

Abbey-Louise jokingly posted in the caption of the video that if it went viral, she would buy Alfie a Lamborghini. Though she only has pocket money, she made that dream come true to the best of her ability!

"We went down to Ken Black's and I was looking to buy him one he could sit in, but he was too big for them all. He picked out a drone and a nerf gun instead, and I got him a toy Lambo, he's delighted," she laughed.

Abbey-Louise explained that music is a dream she would love to pursue, while she currently plays in a band with her mother called My Girl.

"I went to Leah Moran's stage school in Newbridge, and I took part in my TY school musical," the Scoil Chríost Rí student said.

"My friends have all been so supportive and I have had my teachers stopping me and calling me a celeb, my friends and the school have been a huge part of this," she said.

Mam Louise explained that what started as some fun between siblings has progressed to the pair being offered brand deals.

"For two kids from Laois it's amazing. Abbey is being constantly compared to Princess André in the comments, the video has gained so much attention," Louise said.

"Abbey and Alfie posted a second video of them dancing together, and that's already gained two million views, it's incredible," she finished.

Abbey-Louise and her mother will be performing as My Girl in Vibe on November 29, and December 27, and the Sally Gardens on December 5 and 21.
