WATCH: Ambulance delayed in Laois by Portlaoise protest gridlock

All M7 traffic diverted through Portlaoise due to fuel price protest blockade

An ambulance with its blue lights flashing became caught in heavy traffic on James Fintan Lawlor Avenue in Portlaoise, stuck behind a bus and an arctic lorry on its way to the Midlands Regional Hospital on the Dublin Road.

Traffic in Portlaoise was bumper-to-bumper for much of Wednesday as a nationwide fuel protest caused major disruption on the M7 around Portlaoise. Queues stretched from the church along James Fintan Lawlor Avenue up to the Abbeyleix Road roundabout, which was closed to traffic heading towards the motorway.

This is the second day of the protest, with more planned for Thursday, and motorists are advised to expect continued delays through the town.
