The sun was shining on Portlaoise's Main Street on Thursday morning July 2 with the closure of the street to traffic making it a historic day for a historic street.

Local people were out enjoying their teas and coffees in the June sunshine thanks to the initiative taken by Laois County Council in consultation with local businesses.

It is hoped that the move will help to attract more people to shop and socialise on the street as the recover from Covid-19 continues.
