Work has begun on the final stage of refurbishment work at the Ballinakill outdoor swimming pool in preparation for the summer season at the public amenity.
Repair work started on May 7 to fix cracks in the concrete base and walls. This will be followed by the installation of a new screed with flexible mesh and completed with a fresh top coat of paint.
The Ballinakill Community Development Association, which oversees the pool's operation, says €50,000 is being invested in the overhaul, which they hope will be the last major works required in the short term.
"We look forward to publishing more information on other completed works over the past nine months in the coming days and weeks before announcing the opening date for the 2025 season. Long may this sunshine and warm weather last," say the local organisers.

This work is only possible thanks to a grant from the Sports Capital Grant Scheme. The Ballinakill Community Development Association thanked Cllr Barry Walsh for getting some variations to the grant approved.
Extensive upgrade work has been carried out on the pool in recent years, including water heating and the installation of solar panels.
A new playground has also been installed near the playground with the support of Laois County Council.
