‘We don’t choose them just because they’re Irish, we choose them because they’re great’

As it does every year, Stradbally, became the busiest town in Ireland this weekend as 80,000 music fans attended Ireland’s biggest music and arts festival in Ireland to watch the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Gorillaz and Fontaines DC among the acts gracing the main stage.

Festival Director Melvin Benn praised the acts who performed over the sold-out festival weekend, saying it was the “best lineup of any festival in Ireland”.

With Irish acts like Amble and headliners Fontaines DC closing out the festival on Sunday night, Melvin said this was a reflection of what is popular with music fans right around the world.

“It has a very heavy Irish emphasis this year because that is appropriate - the Irish acts are dominating the UK and Ireland there’s no question about that, they’re getting out there to the USA and Europe,” he said.

“We don’t choose them just because they’re Irish, we choose them because they’re great.”

CMAT, who performed on Saturday of the festival, summed it up: ‘This is probably as good as it’s ever going to get for me, so give me a minute to soak it all in’.”

Mr Benn confirmed that there will be no change in ticket prices for Electric Picnic 2027. Partner pre-sale begins on Tuesday, while loyalty and general sale on Friday, September 4.

“There is no increase in capacity for next year or no increase in the ticket price next year,” he stated.

With plenty of sunny spells over the weekend, the wet weather failed to dampen the spirits of the 80,000 festival-goers. For the many Mayo fans among them, there was a great moment on Sunday as the All-Ireland champions took to the stage with The Saw Doctors.
