The Trumera Tiger - touching poem from Thurles college hurlers honours the late Adam Kirwan

Aaron Gleeson recited a poem on the altar in Adam Kirwan's honour at the young Laois man's funeral Mass in Mountrath.

Aaron was a teammate of Adam on the Mary Immaculate College St Patrick's College Thurles team which recently won the Ryan Cup All-Ireland Colleges Hurling title. Aaron said the poem was written by the team coach Cian Treacy.

The Trumera Tiger

Our hearts are broken Adam's Light has gone out,

A gentleman to his fingertips never a bad word left his mouth,

A small man in stature a colossus by heart,

With Kirwan in the middle bossing the park,

Hailing from Trumera,

Laois to the core,

Adam in full stride - the usual result a score,

To Thurles he came, new friends he did find,

Hurling was the link, St Pat's Always the bind,

A legend in the college one of a kind,

More training sessions than lectures and Walsh reckons he was half blind,

The warrior spirit he carried around,

The smile on his face - some man to win a ruck on the ground,

The Ryan Cup was his mission it was clear from the start,

All over the country he hurled fast and smart,

Landing the first in the final, he gave us the perfect start,

He covered every blade hurling with a fearless heart,

Memories of a lifetime, we remember them forever,

Adam, you were family, the last to surrender,

As the final whistle blows and Adam is laid to rest,

Goodbye is so hard but we will carry him with us forever in our chests.
