Rural Minister to promise 'unprecedented' spending on libraries at €7.5 mill Portlaoise Library opening

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, will officially open the new €7.5 million Portlaoise library on Monday, July 17.

At the library opening the Minister will also unveil the new ‘National Public Library Strategy - The Library is the Place.’

The ambitious strategy will support the sustainable development of the public library sector over the next five years through 66 strategic actions. It will ensure that libraries become multi-purpose social and educational facilities for people of all ages.

Minister Humphreys promised that this would include more investment and 'unprecedented funding'.
