Big night for the bright artistic talent of Laois

Annual Lions Club Peace Poster competition prizes awarded in Portlaoise

The Arts Office, Laois County Council hosted a reception and prize giving ceremony for the Lions International Peace Poster Competition in Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise this month.

 The Lions International Peace Poster Contest is an international contest that encourages children, ages 11 - 13, to creatively express what peace means to them.   T

he 2016 contest theme is“Celebration of Peace”, which should evoke some interesting and imaginative work from the students taking part. 

Students from schools around the county took part and their work was adjudicated by an independent professional artist.  The annual poster competition allows students to share their unique image of peace with others, so that we all have greater tolerance and international understanding.

Portlaoise Lions President Marcus Breslin made the presentations. The overall winner, Aoibheann Dalton of Paddock National School), goes forward to the next stage of the international competition.
