South Leinster Schools Track & Field
Six athletes from the club competed over the last couple of weeks in the South Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships. Chloe Keenan qualified for the finals of the minor girl’s sprint hurdles and missed out on a medal by the narrowest of margins finishing in fourth position. Chloe’s sister Gillian went one better, finishing 3rd in the senor hurdles event. In the senior 4 x 100m relay Elaine and Aoife Daly, Gillian Keenan and Kiahara Dempsey ran an excellent race to take the bronze medals. Eoin Keenan finished third in senior boy’s high jump and triple jump. Eoin teamed up with club mate Lee Mullan where they ran an impressive heat to finish second and comfortably qualify for the final. Unfortunately, a poor batten change cost them the opportunity of a medal in the final.
Four athletes competed for the club in the recent Community Games County Cross country trials. Daniel Taylor was first up in the Boys U-12 event. Daniel set a fast pace early on and held on to win in impressive style. Well done Daniel. In the girls U-12 event Louise O’Halloran, Amber Woods and Claire McMahon competed. Although they didn’t win the race they all ran very well and the experience will stand to them in the future.
The club would like to congratulate Eoin Keenan on being awarded Senior Athlete of the Year in his school, St. Mary’s CBS, Portlaoise.

There was a great crowd at the Ned Buggy Memorial Run. A lovely tribute to a lovely man. All money was raised for Pieta House - http://www.pieta.ie. The aim of the run was to cross the line with someone, whether that meant to slow down or speed up. This was to highlight that nobody is alone and there is always someone to talk to. Special thanks to the Buggy family for the signed photo of Messi & Ronaldo, presented to the club last night. Thanks to Noeleen for all her great photos, that really captured the spirit of the day!
