Up to 90 jobs could be created in Laois due to proposed new wholesale food supplier

Planning permission has been sought for the construction of a new warehouse and distribution centre in Portlaoise which could see the creation of up to 90 new jobs. 

Coolnaleen Developments Limited submitted the planning application for the development which is proposed to be constructed at Site 9 of the National Enterprise Park in Knockmay near Clonminam Business Park.

The planning application states that the building will serve as a wholesale food supplier and generate an estimated 50-60 warehouse jobs as well as a further 30 ancillary jobs to support food distribution.

The application proposes the construction of a warehouse unit with associated office accommodation. The development also lists plans for 50 carparking spaces, including 3 accessible spaces and 4 EV spaces, as well as 50 bicycle spaces.

The application details: "Overall combined floor area is c. 4,612 sqm. Warehouse unit is c. 3,745 sqm. Office space is c. 632 sqm, with a plantroom of c. 94 sqm. External drivers’ toilet is 6 sqm. Sprinkler Tank & Pump House is 110 sqm. ESB substation is 25 sqm. The height of building is 14.5 meters to its parapet on all 4 sides. 2 access are proposed from the east (existing), and west (new entrance)."

All ancillary works including landscaping, boundary treatments, internal roadways, carparking, service yard and associated infrastructure both above and below ground level are also included.

Laois County Council are due to make their decision by February 3, 2026.
