89 year-old Laois woman's cold and damp home raised in the Dáil

The woman is living in damp and cold conditions in Laois

An 89 year-old Laois woman who is living in cold and damp conditions will be unable to access the Warmer Homes Scheme for two years, the Dáil has heard.

Laois TD Willie Aird raised the matter in the Dáil with Taoiseach Micheál Martin.

“I raised the lengthy waiting times under the Warmer Homes Scheme directly with the Taoiseach in Dáil Éireann, highlighting the case of an 89-year-old Laois woman living in a cold and damp home who has been told she could wait up to two years for the necessary works,” he wrote on social media.

Dep Aird said the woman’s house was cold and damp but her age or health cannot be taken into account for the scheme.

He called for common sense to prevail and asked for provisions for exceptional cases.

Mr Martin said it sounded like an urgent matter and he said he would contact the Minister in relation to it.
