Great 'buzz' around in Laois with the grand reopening of local apiary!

A Laois beekeeping group are excited to invite locals to the opening of their new apiary.

The Laois Beekeeping Association have been working on the updating of their Abbeyleix apiary since 2024, and are proud to hold the official reopening on May 25.

The organisation operates out of Tullyroe in Abbeyleix, and aims to promote the art of beekeeping through education and support.

"Last year we commenced work on the apiary and cleared the site and prepared the groundwork," a representative said.

"We have planted native Irish hedging and trees on this site and a wild Flower meadow. With the hard work and Meitheal of our Association members and support from the local community we are now up and running."

The association are also proud to announce the official unveiling of a mural by local artist Aileen Donovan, which was possible with the assistance of Laois County Council and Creative Ireland Heritage Through Arts Grant.

The grand opening of the new and improved apiary was set to take place last October, however this was postponed due to stormy weather.
