In PICTURES: Young Laois musicians strike on key in Portlaoise

Young local Laois trad musicians honed their skills at a sean-nós and trad creativity Soundwaves workshops in Portlaoise after Culture Night in Laois.

Musicians Padraig Rynne, Tara Breen and Caoimhe Ní Fhlatharta delivered the workshops in association with Dunamaise Arts Centre and Music Generation Laois. Read more about the project below photo. To see more pictures tap NEXT or ARROW.

The workshop was the first in the series provided by Soundwaves that is supported by The Arts Council.

SoundWaves Music Space provides masterclasses, workshops and mentoring programmes in Ireland and in regions across the Atlantic Arc.  

Programmes encourage participants to cultivate their own unique process of openness and curiosity towards writing, arranging and performing, exploring new ideas, individual techniques and musical approaches.

SoundWaves was piloted in Ireland in 2021 as part of Dónal Lunny's Atlantic Arc series of masterclasses and concerts. The programme engaged 60 young musicians from counties Clare, Carlow, Laois, Wexford and Waterford to learn, rehearse and perform alongside some of Ireland's most renowned traditional musicians
