Fun and lots more in store

Are you a young Laois person with a creative mind looking for an outlet to express yourself?

If so the Laois Youth Theatre in Portlaoise could be just what you're looking for and its restarting this November.

Youth Theatre, backed by Laois County Council,  is open to young people aged 12-18 (secondary school ages+) who are interested in drama, acting, creative writing and storytelling and all aspects of theatre - on and off the stage.

The Laois Arts Office outlines more about the group.

"Even if you’re shy of performance, but have a creative mind for design, storytelling and collaboration, these fun weekly workshops will support learning new skills, developing confidence and making friends.

"Youth Theatre is about giving young people the opportunity to find a voice and use it to create art and theatre that matters to young people. Future opportunities include staging productions at Dunamaise and collaborations with other Youth Theatres across Laois and nationwide.

"The first session is free no matter when you join, so come along and try it out," say the organisers.

Laois Youth Theatre restarts in Portlaoise for the 2023/2024 season on Tuesday, November 14. Each term costs €50, with payment plans and bursary places available through Dunamaise Arts Centre - enquiries welcome.

Weekly Sessions are held every Tuesday evening, 7.30-9pm, during school term in Dance Laois studio space, 4 Hynes Square, Portlaoise, R32 X659, which is just around the corner from Dunamaise Arts Centre. Contact Pauline Dunne at 085 788 7303 to get involved or to arrange a free taster session in your school.

Laois Youth Theatre is funded by Laois Arts Office at Laois County Council. It is supported by Dunamaise Arts Centre. Laois Youth Theatre Members can avail of free and low-cost tickets to professional theatre performances and film screenings at Dunamaise Arts Centre and other Laois venues.
