Drama fans are in for a treat when the 2024 Bostik All-Ireland Confined Drama Finals descends on Mountmellick later this month.
The stage at the Community Arts Centre is set for an exhilarating showcase of amateur dramatic talent during the finals which run from April 18 to 26, with the highly anticipated awards night taking place on April 27.
Hosted for the first time by Mountmellick Drama Festival committee and organised under the auspices of the Amateur Drama Council of Ireland, this prestigious event promises a feast of drama, featuring captivating performances by drama groups and theatre companies from across the country.
Representing counties Mayo, Galway, Clare, Wexford, Fermanagh, and Tyrone, these talented performers will compete for top honours and recognition in various categories.
Throughout the nine-night event, audiences can expect to be enthralled by a diverse range of productions, each showcasing the unique talents and artistic vision of participating drama groups. From seasoned veterans to emerging talents, the competition brings together theatre enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among participants and spectators alike.
Highlighting the importance of amateur theatre in Ireland, Patricia Conroy, Festival Director commented: “This event is not just a competition; it's a celebration of the passion, dedication, and creativity of amateur drama groups across the country and we are proud to play host to such a talented group of performers.”
Adjudicator for the week is the esteemed Mr Walker Ewart ADA and the Opening Ceremony will be performed by Portlaoise man Mr Pat Boran, poet, writer and dramatist.
