World renowned woodturner Roger Bennett will visit Laois Arthouse for a special conversation with artist Alan Meredith who currently has an exhibition on display at the venue.
Alan's exhibition, called Quercu, which is the scientific name for Oak, was recently opened by Cllr Paschal McEvoy, Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council.
Alan grew up in a farmhouse, called The Oak, in Mountmellick, and this is where his workshops and studios are now based.
He began working with wood from an early age and oak is the dominant material that he has used for this exhibition.
His work to date straddles the boundaries of craft, sculpture and architecture and has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
Alan has won many awards, has exhibited in the UK the US and has created once off pieces for clients, furniture, public art pieces and wood turned vessels.
On Wednesday, June 4 at 7pm, Roger Bennett, the world renowned woodturner, originally from Knockaroo in Laois, will conduct a conversation with Alan, about the exhibition.
Refreshments will be served. Tours can be arranged on request, and it is a very interesting exhibition for children, students, and adults alike.
