The wider community in Durrow has worked hard the last few months in preparation of their fabulous 'trip to Hollywood'.

Durrow Development Forum have been working with Lip Sync Ireland to try raise €226,000 needed for the new Community and Enterprise Hub planned for the village.

Locals have starred and worked on films such as 'Father Ted', 'Friends', 'Fawlty Towers', 'Sister Act', 'Waking Ned', 'The Snapper' and 'Pretty Woman'.

With people donating towards their favourite films, over €36,587 has been raised.

The next fundraiser will see a variety of pricey items, amazing experiences and gorgeous getaways up for grabs.

A pop-up auction will take place on Saturday September 20 in the Church of Ireland Hall on the Cork Road, from 3pm to 5pm.

Auctioneer Rory Doyle will oversee all the action with lots galore!

Lots include a two night stay in Dungarvan; an airplane flight over Durrow; dinner, bed and breakfast in Castle Durrow; a cruise along the Erkina river; a family photo shoot; a cart golf bag and men's golf club set; a home energy assessment; a Goatsbridge trout hamper; a bespoke carpentry job; a British Open flag signed by Darren Clarke; an oil burner service; green fees at Castlecomer; a gig at Whelan's in Dublin with a hotel voucher; a Nottingham Forest's men's jersey (large); Ireland's men's football jersey (medium); and a signed Phil Collins book, 'Not Dead Yet'.

Along with these amazing items, there is much more up for grabs!

"Keep an eye on the community Facebook Page 'Durrow Laois Ireland' for ongoing updates between now and the big day on September 20!" an organiser said.

"For more information or to contact the organiser, please phone - text - or WhatsApp 087 1027677. We look forward to seeing you there!" they finished.

'Durrow goes to Hollywood' will take place in the Castle Arms Hotel on Saturday, November 1.

Stage one of the planned Community and Enterprise Hub was completed through various fundraising initiatives including the Scarecrow Festival, which sadly ended in 2024.

The next stages will cost €2.23 million, with Laois County Council assisting with €1.78 million through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund. Durrow must match the fund in amount of €446,000, with €226,000 left to raise.
