Laois is one of two counties being reviewed by an Indian-based alternative energy company to locate a solar panel factory.
Eirsun Limited says it is beginning a process that will allow homes, farms and businesses to become energy independent.
The company says is will outline its product and services at a launc on Friday, May 13 in Co Westmeath. In an advance notice of the event it outlined its plans to make solar panels.
"We seek to build a manufacturing plant for solar panels in the midlands. Sites have been looked at so far in Portlaoise and Mullingar," it said.
Eirsun also said it will be the first member of the "Indian Chamber of Commerce" in Ireland which is being set up by the Ireland India Council, which has been in existence for 21 years.
The company says its product range includes solar PV panels, inverters, energy storage systems, EV chargers etc. for residential, commercial and agricultural solar applications.
Prashant Shukla co-founded Eirsun in 2023 and is Chairman at Ireland India Council.
He describes Eirsun as a company that is involved in the fabrication, manufacturing and distribution of solar PV panels and research and innovation of eco-friendly products and services.
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland has reported that solar is positioned to become one of the most important energy technologies in meeting global sustainable energy and climate commitments.
It says Irish organisations can position themselves to capture a significant share of the domestic solar PV market as it grows.
