Portlaoise man launches new health and safety consultancy business

Portlaoise man, Austin Stack, who recently retired from the Prison Service has launched a new Health and Safety consultancy business.

Well known Portlaoise man, Austin Stack, who recently retired from the Prison Service has launched a new Health and Safety consultancy business.

Austin spent many years in a senior managerial role in the Prison Service where he developed a strong reputation as a Health and Safety expert.

He has a MSc in Environmental Health and Safety and successfully led a team in the Midlands Prison to achieving the much sought after ISO 18001 accreditation.

In launching the consultancy, Mr. Stack said that “I want to put the knowledge and expertise that I have gained over the years at the disposal of local businesses”.

The business will be aimed primarily at small to medium businesses who Mr. Stack says, “may be unsure or unaware of their obligations under Health and Safety legislation to have a business Safety Statement and to have all their activities Risk Assessed”.

He continued “by not having a Safety Statement or Risk Assessments, businesses are leaving themselves open to both prosecution and personal injury claims in the event of a customer or employee having an accident”.

Stack Health and Safety will aim to support business by providing specific tailor made Safety Statements and Risk Assessments for each individual business, with built in annual reviews,
while also providing a suite of Health and Safety training programmes designed for business owners and employees.

Mr. Stack says that “many businesses fear or dread all things Health and Safety and I want to remove that by providing a service that ensures they are fully compliant, but also have somebody they can call on for advice if something happens”.
The idea for the business came after a friend of Mr. Stack’s contacted him for advice following a customer accident at one of their business outlets. He said, “they had no Safety Statement or Risk Assessments and so were left very exposed”.

Mr. Stack explained that he wants to “take the mystery out of Health and Safety and provide a friendly service aimed at supporting our smaller businesses”.
