A popular Laois pub has requested permission to extend, including the installation of a commercial kitchen to add food production to its business.

Turley's Pub in Mountmellick is seeking approval to build a single storey extension to the rear of the licensed premises, to include additional seating area together with a commercial kitchen, storage and staff toilet.

The premises is on Harbour Street on the outskirts of the town. It is a popular spot with weekly live music.

It is coming under new management this March, announced by the outgoing managers, local brothers Tom and Brian Moss.

"We would like to thank all our wonderful customers and staff who have made the last three and a half years such an enjoyable experience, we’ve loved every minute of it, made great friends and shared fantastic memories that we’ll never forget. Anyone who has made bookings for the future can rest assured, Turley’s will be staying open for business with exciting plans that will see an extension and the arrival of a state of the art kitchen to add another string to the bow to what is already a great venue."

The pub sponsored the winning Laois Rose Sinead Dowd in 2023.

Applicants Michael and Elizabeth Buggy have submitted a plan for the commercial kitchen to be built alongside the courtyard, with extensive equipment for prepping and cooking meals.

The application was submitted to Laois County Council on February 21 2025, with a decision due by April 17.
