'A true gent': Laois business to cycle 600km in memory of dearly missed colleague

A Portlaoise business will cycle over 635 kilometres across Croatia as part of a fundraiser in memory of their beloved colleague and friend.

Powerpoint Engineering in Kea-Lew business park have held an annual charity cycle since 2021.

This year, employees Johan Erasmus, David Phelan, Gavin Deering and Conor McGarry will take on a four day charity cycle from Lovinac to Dubrovnik, Croatia, From September 19 to 22.

"This year's cycle is dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and colleague, Emlyn O'Reilly, who passed away on July 26 2025 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer," a representative from Powerpoint Engineering has said.

"Emlyn was a much-loved member of our team- kind, positive and a true gentleman."

Covering 635km, the cycle will honour Emlyn's wishes by raising funds for Friends of the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore, a 100% voluntary charity that provides special care rooms and gardens for patients and families.

"Emlyn spent his final two weeks in one of these rooms, surrounded by love, dignity and peace," Powerpoint Engineering said.

"Since 2021, our annual charity cycle has raised €130,375 for our chosen charities. This year's cycle is especially close to our hearts, and we hope you can support us." 

Separate to this fundraiser, the Laois business will also make a donation of €40,000 to Down Syndrome Centre, the charity that they have proudly supported in previous charity cycles.
