Chinese food
A longstanding Chinese family restaurant in Laois has announced it is closing down.
Portlaoise Chinese has been in business for forty years, serving thousands of hungry customers in their takeaway and restaurant on Church Avenue since the 1980's.
Run by the Tsang family, they made the announcement at lunchtime on Thursday, December 4.
However they are giving customers one more month to enjoy the restaurant's food, including the busy Christmas period.
"Dear valued customers, after 40 wonderful years of serving our community, we have made the heartfelt decision to close our doors on January 5, 2026.
"We want to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who have shared meals, laughter and memories with us over the decades.
"Your support, friendship and loyalty have meant the world to our family and to our team.
"This may seem like an ending but we see it as a beginning, an opportunity to reflect, to grow and perhaps to welcome you again in a new form some day. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of our story. We wouldn't have come this far without you. With sincerity and gratitude, (Portlaoise Chinese) Alan family," the business said.
