A Laois couple who reopened their vacant family pub less than three years ago, are calling time and handing over to new management.

Una Murphy and Liam Headen run the Tower Inn in Timahoe village.

They have announced their business decision before Christmas, to the dismay and warm wishes of their customers.

"After a fantastic almost 3 years of serving our wonderful regulars and supporters we have made the decision to close as we were.

"It's been a blast. What a great way to get to know some great people. We want to thank all of our regulars and supporters for your business over the years.
"We are really proud to have brought a pub back to life. However after almost 3 years we know with certainty that pub life is not conducive to our family life.
"We wish the lads taking it on the very best of luck.
"A very special thanks to the following: Yvonne for being the embodiment of what a good land lady should be. Roghan for his support throughout. Colm and the Murphy family for their unending help and assistance. Marie for her daily cleaning and her super sandwiches. Eamonn and Eugene for their ongoing support. Amy for her loyal service."

"We wish you all a happy Christmas and we look forward to meeting ye from the other side of the bar. Go neiri an bother liabh," say Yvonne, Una and Liam.

The Tower Inn remains open for business.

They had reopened in May 2023, returning ownership of the 300 year old pub to the Headen family. Liam has a fabrication business Viking Engineering in the village, and the couple have a seven year old son Fionn.

They made a big impact during their short tenure on village life, introducing an open mic trad night, poker nights, a golf society, a snooker tournament, hosting rehearsals of the Timahoe Male Choir, as well as local fundraisers.

Customers are wishing them well, from as far as Australia.

"Just want to say thank you for your kindness, I appreciated the fact you always made me welcome and also your principles in ensuering people got home, always a lift home, best of luck going forward Timahoe patrons will certainly miss the fact Yvonne and co are not behind the Bar," one customer said.
