A NUMBER of resturants from around Laois have proven successful at the county stage of the Irish Restaurant Awards.

A NUMBER of resturants from around Laois have proven successful at the county stage of the Irish Restaurant Awards.

There were six categories in this year’s competiton, and the county winners from each category will now go forward to the regional and national stage of the competition, which will be held later this month.

The Kingfisher Restaurant won the customer service category, while the best gastro pub in Laois was chosen as Lethean. Best in the casual dining category was McEvoys, and the best hotel restaurant was Castle Durrow. The winner of the best chef category for the county was Fred Cordonnier from Ballyfin Demense and the top restaurant in Laois was Seasons Bistro.

For the next stage of the competition, all county winners will receive a mystery guest visit. The establishments will also be submitting their food menu and wine lists for judging, and representatives from each of the regional judging panels and will meet in May to judge the county winners.
