Lidl Ireland invites Monasterevin community to view plans for proposed new store

Lidl Ireland is planning another new store, close to the Laois border in Monasterevin.

They recently opened a new store in Graiguecullen, and a planning appeal for a Mountmellick store nears a final decision. See those stories below.

The German founded discount supermarket chain also has Laois stores in Portlaoise and Portarlington.

It is now revealing its plans for a store in Monasterevin, near Ballybrittas and Killenard.

Lidl says it will cost more than €10 million and the creation of 25 permanent local jobs.

They are inviting residents and members of the community and the surrounding areas to a public information evening to view and discuss its plans for a proposed new, state-of-the-art supermarket in the town.

Lidl’s property team will present detailed architectural plans, outline the project timelines and answer any questions from the public.

The proposed development aims to deliver a modern, spacious supermarket built to the highest environmental and building standards, incorporating energy-efficient technologies such as solar panel installations, heat recovery systems and electric vehicle charging points.

Lidl Ireland has a major distribution centre in Newbridge serving more than 60 stores across the eastern seaboard while Kildare already has 10 other Lidl stores, in total employing more than 500 staff in the county.

Lidl is also emphasising that it procured more than €109 million worth of goods and services from 74 Kildare agri-food suppliers and business partners. Of this, €44 million worth of Kildare-made produce were exported to Lidl stores across the globe.

Lidl’s Kildare suppliers include O'Brien Fine Foods, Irish Dog Foods and Green Isle Brands. Lidl also donated 28,000 meals to 25 local charities in Kildare in 2025 via its FoodCloud partnership.

Damien Ryan is Regional Property Director at Lidl Ireland.

"We are looking forward to meeting the community of Monasterevin and sharing our vision for a new store in the locality. Our goal is to provide a premium shopping environment that delivers the highest quality products at the best value on the market. Community feedback is an essential part of our planning process, and we welcome everyone to come along on Thursday evening, view the designs and discuss how our development can best serve Monasterevin."

The Lidl Ireland Monasterevin Proposed Store Community Consultation takes place this Thursday September 17, from 5pm to 7pm in Monasterevin Community Centre, Whelan St, Monasterevin, W34 FH24
