Man accused of assaulting prison officer

Details of an injury sustained following an assault on a prison officer were heard at Portlaoise District Court. 

Patrick Kinsella, 43, of 7 St Ronan’s Gardens, Clondalkin, Dublin is accused of assault at the Midlands Prison on December 12, 2017. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the case had been adjourned in order for the judge to decide whether or not to accept jurisdiction.

He said the medical report detailed “a laceration to the right side of the forehead.” 

Sgt Kirby said cleaning and a dressing was applied but there was no need for any stitches. 

On hearing the evidence, Judge Cody said he would accept jurisdiction. He adjourned the case to Portlaoise District Court on March 16.
