A man was arrested for being drunk in a Portlaoise playground in the middle of the afternoon.

Lee Dennehy, 21, of 25 Roselawn, Portlaoise admitted being drunk in St Brigid’s Place on November 4, 2022.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the incident occurred at the playground at 2pm in the day.

“A place where children play,”  he said. The defendant has four previous convictions, he said.

Solicitor Philip Meagher said his client has very little recollection of what happened.

“He asked me to express his concern in case there was any upset caused,” he said.

Judge Andrew Cody fined the man €200 and gave him three months to pay.
