Teen ordered not to carry a knife

Court - Young Portlaoise man drunkenly abused gardaí

A teenager was ordered not to carry any weapon or any sort of knife.

The 15 year-old boy was accused of having a knife in Laois on August 29 and August 30 last year.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the teenager had allegedly used a knife in a threat to a girl about her brother August 29. The following day gardai contacted the teenager.

“He was searched and found to be in possession of a knife,” Sgt Kirby said.

The defendant, who was accompanied to court by his parents, cannot be named due to his age.

Judge Andrew Cody described it as a serious matter during the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

He granted bail on condition the teenager obey a curfew between 10pm and 7am, have no contact with the alleged injured parties and not carry any weapon of any nature, particularly a knife.

Judge Cody remanded the teen on bail and adjourned the matter back to July 6.
