Tragic loss: The late Joe Drennan
Gardai have mafe an arrest as part of investigation into a Limerick crash that claimed the life of Laois student Joe Drennan.
Gardaí confirmed the arrest a man in relation to the fatal crash on the Dublin Road in Castletroy, Limerick, on October 13.
The man arrested is aged in his late teens and was detained under Section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1999, at a Garda Station in Limerick City.
Joe Drennan was a pedestrian when he was struck by a vehicle involved in a crash with another car. The 21-year-old from Camross was a journalism student University of Limerick.
The incident involved two cars. The driver of one of the cars failed to remain at the scene.
One of the cars involved was allegedly subject to interaction with An Garda Síochána prior to the fatal incident.
The matter has been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (Gsoc) under Section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005.
Investigations are ongoing.
