Laois Offaly Gardaí issue warning over thefts from cars

People urged to remove property and lock up

Spate of thefts from cars across Kilkenny county

Laois Offaly Gardaí have issued advice to the public in relation to thefts from parked cars. 

Last month a number of items were stolen when cars were targeted in Portlaoise.  

Gardaí issued a warning to car owners on social media urging them to take precautions. 

“Appeal to public, particularly around #Edenderry Town where we continue to see thefts from cars. You can help us reduce the opportunity for these types of criminal acts by removing the pay off and reducing the means

Theft from cars is one of the most preventable crimes. It costs nothing, only a change of habits,” Gardaí stated. .

“Various items including clothing,  money,  electrical items and banking cards are stolen. 

Remember the advice. Criminals look for an opportunity and an open door is the easiest. It only takes a moment for you to remove property and lock up,” Gardaí said. 

Our Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Graham Kavanagh reminds us to "Park Smart". Remove all valuables from your car when parked. Lock and use vehicle alarm. Store keys away from front door to avoid key fishing or relay theft crimes. And report all suspicious persons or concerns,” Gardaí added.
