Gardaí say BMW driver was drunk and doing over 160 kph on Laois motorway

Gardaí say a BMW driver was drunk while doing over 160kph on the motorway in Laois. 

“Laois Roads Policing Unit detected this vehicle travelling at 163kph on the M8. When the vehicle was stopped the driver was arrested as they were drunk. Court proceedings commenced,” Gardai said. 

Separately, Laois Road Policing Unit arrested a driver on suspicion of drug driving on the M7 motorway in Laois.

“Laois Roads Policing unit stopped a vehicle on the M7 after an ANPR alert for NCT and Tax offences. The driver was an unaccompanied Learner Permit holder and there was a strong smell of cannabis from the vehicle. The driver failed the roadside drug test and was arrested. A blood specimen was taken and a prosecution will follow,” Gardaí said.
