Man accused of possessing €160,000 of drugs granted bail

Bail was granted to a man who is accused of having drugs valued at €160,000 in Portarlington. 

Keith Dunne (38) of Mohia Lane, Killurin, Tullamore, Co Offaly appeared before Portlaoise District Court via video link. He is accused of having drugs for sale or supply at Main Street, Portarlington on April 8, 2026. 

His father Aidan Dunne appeared in court where he gave evidence that he was prepared to use €10,000 of his savings as surety for his son’s bail application. 

Andrew Dunne BL asked the man if he was aware of the bail conditions and he said he was. Mr Dunne then asked him if he had any convictions and he said he hadn’t. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby asked the man if he was aware of the curfew condition requiring the defendant to remain indoors during certain hours. The man said he was and that it was between 7pm and 8am.

Judge Susan Fay said “you understand that you could lose your money? “I do,” he replied. She then approved the independent surety and remanded the defendant in custody with consent to bail to appear before Portlaoise District Court on April 27. 

Mr Dunne told his client that he could sign the bail bond in prison.
