Man repeatedly punched in Laois pub

The incident occurred in a pub in Mountmellick

A man admitted punching another man in a pub in Mountmellick earlier this year. 

Brian McEvoy (55) of Garryhinch, Portarlington, Offaly pleaded guilty to assault causing harm at Lalors, Harbour Street, Mountmellick on January 27 last. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the injured party was allegedly “punched in the head and face a number of times” during the incident. 

The victim was taken to hospital for an MRI and had a cut over his left eye. 

Solicitor Philip Meagher said his client was pleading guilty to the offence. 

Judge Nicola Andrews adjourned the case to Portlaoise District Court on December 10 for facts, mitigation and a victim impact report.
