Man accused of assaulting a woman and producing a knife in Laois

The defendant is also alleged to have threatened to kill or cause serious harm to the woman

A book of evidence was served on a man who is accused of assaulting a woman, producing a knife and threatening to kill her.

Radu Stanescu (39) who gave an address at Killanure, Mountrath is accused of assault, threatening to kill and production of a large kitchen knife at The Rock, Mountrath on May 30 last. 

Garda Lisa Murray gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the accused. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed that the case be sent forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court on January 14. 

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was not working. She asked for legal aid for a solicitor and two counsel. 

Judge Andrew Cody asked the nature of the assault allegation. 

Sgt Kirby said it would be alleged the defendant grabbed a woman by the neck and pushed her head onto the passenger seat of a car and punched her in the stomach and breast area. 

Judge Cody granted  legal aid for a solicitor and one counsel. He sent the case forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court on January 14.
