A judge accepted jurisdiction in relation to an assault in a pub in Portlaoise.

Barry Galvin (42) of 54 Willow Park, Carlow is accused of assault causing harm at Kavanaghs Pub, Main Street, Portlaoise on November 8, 2023.

Andrew Dunne BL said the case was listed for directions.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said “I will have directions the next day.”

“CCTV is the only thing that is outstanding,” he told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

Sgt Kirby said it would be alleged the injured party had suffered “concussion, contusion to the side of the head and a laceration to the back of the head.”

Judge Cody noted there was “bruising to the scalp and face”.

He accepted jurisdiction and adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on February 10 for DPP directions.
