A burglar was caught on video breaking into a house in Laois, by the owner's Phonewatch camera.
The incident took place in Camira, outside Mountmellick.
Laois Gardaí have confirmed to the Leinster Express / Laois Live that they are investigating the incident was reported to them by the security system, at about 9.45pm on Thursday, December 12.
They confirm that a rear window was forced open, and the house was ransacked but nothing appears to have been taken.
"PhoneWatch contacted the Gardaí. A rear bedroom window was forced open, possibly with a screwdriver. The house was ransacked. Nothing was taken. Nobody was at home at the time," Garda Sgt Anita Scully confirmed.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Gardaí.
In a second, separate Laois incident, a man's face was injured in a nighttime assault on a Portlaoise street, requiring a trip to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise.
A man had allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing facial injury and bleeding. The suspect is not yet known to Gardaí.
It happened at about 2.15am on Sunday morning, December 15 in Market Square, outside Coppers nightclub/The Mixer.
An investigation is underway, with CCTV footage to be examined.
