Laois gardaí issue advice over thefts from cars

The advice follows incidents at the weekend

Offaly and Laois car owners warned as vehicle thefts increase across the two counties

Offaly and Laois car owners warned

Laois Gardaí have issued advice to help prevent thefts from cars.

Cars were targeted by thieves in Strabally at the weekend. It’s understood at least two cars were searched at Brockley Park, Stradbally, and items were stolen from one of the vehicles.

“Our regular advice about thefts from cars,  the bulk of which take place at or near the home in our Division and mostly are unsecured cars with property left in them.

We continue to see thefts from cars. We are making arrests and charging those involved. You can help us reduce the opportunity for these types of criminal acts by removing the pay off and reducing the means,” gardaí said in an online post.

“Theft from cars is one of the most preventable crimes. Its costs nothing only a change of habits.

Various items including clothing,  money,  electrical items and banking cards are stolen.

Remember the advice. Criminals look for an opportunity and an open door is the easiest. It only takes a moment for you to remove property and lock up,” gardaí said.

Laois Offaly Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Graham Kavanagh is reminded people  to "Park Smart". “Remove all valuables from your car when parked. Lock and use vehicle alarm. Store keys away from front door to avoid key fishing or relay theft crimes. And report all suspicious persons or concerns,” he said.

Anyone with information in relation to the incidents in Stradbally is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100.
