Portlaoise District Court

A woman appeared in court accused of having drugs valued at over €10,000 in Portlaoise.

Shannon Brophy (27) of 96 Cherrygrove, Knockmay, Portlaoise, is accused of having drugs valued at €10,110 for sale or supply at her address on November 18, 2025.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the allegation related to the seizure of a large amount of drugs and cash.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said she was seeking legal aid in the case.

Sgt Kirby said it would be alleged that as well as the drugs there was €2,400 in cash seized in the investigation.

Ms Fitzpatrick said while she understood the state’s objection, the money which was seized was part of a “modest inheritance” the defendant got from her uncle.

“I would like a vouched statement of means,” said Judge Susan Fay. She adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on February 23 and deferred legal aid pending receipt of a vouched statement of means.
