Portlaoise District Court
A mechanic appeared in court accused of stealing four kegs of beer and 36 bottles of alcohol from a pub in Laois.
Conor McMahon (36) of Kilpatrick, Kildangan, Kildare is accused of stealing 12 bottles of Smirnoff vodka valued at €364.99, 24 bottles of Bulmers valued at €206.14 from the Vintage Inn, Stradbally on October 9 last and four kegs of beer valued at €710 from the Rock Inn, Dublin Road, Portlaoise on November 2, 2025. He is also accused of having no insurance or driving licence in Stradbally on October 9, 2025.
Andrew Dunne BL said the man wished to vary his bail conditions. He said the man also had a new address at Maryville, Kildare and he asked about easing the man’s curfew.
“He has been abiding by all of his bail conditions including only being in Laois for court,” said Mr Dunne.
Judge Susan Fay said she had imposed the curfew with good reason.
Mr Dunne said his client had found a job in Dublin. He was recovering from addiction and wished to exercise but could only do so in the evenings due to work and family commitments. He said the man wished to join a gym.
Judge Susan Fay said she wasn’t convinced of the need to vary bail and she adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on January 5 when she said the matter could be revisited.
