GardaI say 'prolific' thief suspected of crimes across Ireland arrested in Laois

The arrest was a result of targeted, intelligence-led policing

Second man arrested in connection with Tipperary burglary

Laois Gardaí have arrested a suspected “prolific” shoplifter who was wanted nationwide.

“Gardaí in Portlaoise have made arrests in connection with a series of retail theft incidents following targeted, intelligence-led policing.

One prolific offender, wanted nationwide, has been arrested and charged. A second individual, sought in relation to multiple retail theft offences across the Eastern Region, was arrested on arrival into the State,” Gardaí said in a statement.

“These arrests reflect the ongoing focus on addressing repeat retail theft, supporting local retailers, and disrupting persistent offending in Portarlington and surrounding areas.

Retail theft has real impacts on workers, businesses, and communities. Gardaí will continue to take decisive action,” they added.
