Gardaí say an e-scooter rider arrested on suspicion of drink driving was found to be over eight times the legal limit.
Laois Offaly Gardaí seized the e-scooter which they said was illegal as it was fitted with a 2000 watt-motor.
The Offaly Roads Policing Unit seized the e-scooter and arrested the rider.
“The scooter was fitted with a 2000-watt motor, making it illegal for use on a public road. The rider was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was found to be over eight times the legal alcohol limit,” Gardaí said.
Gardaí said “the individual has been charged and is due to appear before Tullamore District Court. The scooter has been seized for technical/PSV examination.”

They say the incident serves as a reminder that drink driving laws apply to all vehicles and that not all electric scooters are legal for road use.
Gardaí advised road users in Laois and Offaly that high-powered scooters pose a serious risk to riders and other road users.
