Man accused of defilement of a child in Laois

A man appeared in court accused of sexual assault and defilement of a child aged under 15.

The man (22), who has a Laois address and cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of sexual assault and defilement of a child under 15 in Laois on April 26, 2025.

Detective Garda Collins gave evidence of charging the accused. She said “he made no reply to either charge”.

Det Collins said there was no objection to bail subject to a number of conditions. She said directions were received in the case which was to proceed on indictment. Det Collins asked that the case be adjourned for a book of evidence.

Solicitor Brian Duffy said his client would abide by the bail conditions. He was granted legal aid in the case.

Judge Peter White adjourned the matter on consent back to Portlaoise District Court on March 5 for service of the book of evidence.
