Accused of threats to kill at Midlands Prison in Portlaoise

The man appeared before Portlaoise District Court

REVEALED: Number of phones, hooch, drugs and weapons seized at Midlands prisons

A man appeared in court accused of making threats to kill at the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise. 

Michael Murray (54) of Midlands Prison, Dublin Road, Portlaoise is accused of threatening to kill or cause serious harm to a man and to a woman at the Midlands Prison on April 11, 2023. 

He appeared before Portlaoise District Court via video link and told the court that his solicitor was based in Dublin. 

Counsel for the accused said “I was instructed that he was to be physically produced today”. 

He asked that the defendant be produced at Portlaoise District Court on the next date. 

Judge Peter White adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on January 19 for service of the book of evidence. He said the accused, who is in custody, was to be produced on that date.
