An alleged assault in Portlaoise resulted in a fractured eye socket and nose, a court was told.

Miroslav Harakal (30) of 9505190/754 Vorlickova, 281 Doksy, Kladno, Czech Republic, is accused of assault causing harm at The Grange, Borris Road, Portlaoise on November 14, 2025.

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said the defendant was granted bail but didn’t have the independent surety of €2,000 to take it up. The man appeared before Portlaoise District Court via video link.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said “the allegation is that injuries include a fractured eye socket and fractured nose”. He said directions are still awaited and a file has been submitted to the DPP.

Mr Fitzgerald said his client remained in custody and he asked that the case be marked peremptory against the State.

Judge Peter White agreed and adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on January 19. He marked the case peremptory against the State for directions.
