Trial for alleged drug possession in Laois

He appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court

A book of evidence was served on a man who is accused of possessing drugs in Borris-in-Ossory. 

John McCarthy (44) of  32 Ossory Court, Borris-in-Ossory, is accused of having drugs for sale or supply at his address on March 13, 2025. 

Garda Lisa Murray said she served a book of evidence on the accused at Portlaoise District Court

Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes said the DPP had consented to the case being sent forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court beginning on February 17. 

Judge Susan Fay issued an alibi warning and granted legal aid for one solicitor and one counsel. She remanded the defendant on bail and sent the case forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court on February 17, 2026.
