A court heard a woman’s friends became concerned and contacted a hotel before her arrest in Laois.

Seona Walsh (47) of 22 Main Street, Chapelizod, Dublin pleaded guilty to being intoxicated and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour at the Killeshin Hotel, Dublin Road, Portlaoise on October 31 last.

Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes said the woman was intoxicated and became “verbally abusive” toward Gardai at the hotel on the date in question. He said she had no previous convictions.

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said the woman was “deeply embarrassed” over the incident. He explained that the woman’s friends had been concerned for her and had contacted the hotel.

“She ended up being abusive when Gardai arrived,” he said.

He said the woman was now addressing her alcohol use and “seems to be taking matters in hand” and he told the court that she had previously worked with the homeless.

Judge Susan Fay applied the probation act after the woman had donated €100 to the court poor box.
